Common purslane (Portulaca oleracea)

Common purslane (Portulaca oleracea) is currently thriving, reaching its peak in open gardens where it’s recognized not just as a weed, but as a valuable plant. While your garden is already offering delights like ripening tomatoes and crisp cucumbers, don’t overlook the purslane! It’s refreshingly mucilaginous with a subtle lemony flavor, and unlike some herbs, it doesn’t leave you rushing for a glass of water afterward. In fact, purslane is an excellent source of Omega-3 fatty acids, often touted as the best terrestrial source. So, when I’m feeling weary from gardening and there’s still work to be done, a bit of purslane boosts my energy and helps me finish the day’s tasks with ease.
